This is where most damage happens. Staples pierce the wire jacket and create a moisture path straight into the strand, which is why stapled displays fail in the middle of the season. Nails split fascia board. Adhesive hooks fail in cold and pull paint off with them when they finally let go.
We use all-clip mounting, sized to the surface — shingle clips on the roof edge, gutter clips on the gutter lip, and purpose-made hardware around windows and columns. Nothing is driven into your house, and when the display comes down in January there is nothing left behind in your fascia to find next spring. Lombard’s 1960s housing stock has enough original fascia board still in service that this genuinely matters.
A low-pitch ranch roof and a steep colonial gable are different jobs requiring different equipment and different safety approaches. Lombard has both, often on the same block. Two-story Georgians near the Metra line, wide single-story ranches off Main Street, split-levels with mismatched planes, and newer builds with multiple intersecting gables all get scoped during the consultation rather than discovered on install day.

Gutter condition is the other thing we check before quoting. A number of Lombard homes still have original aluminum gutters with sections that have pulled slightly away from the fascia over fifty years, and clipping a loaded strand to a compromised run is how a gutter comes down in an ice storm. We flag that during the consultation. It is not upselling, it is the difference between a display that survives January and one that takes the gutter with it.
Emergency rooms see a predictable spike in fall-related injuries every December, and holiday decorating is a meaningful share of it. That is the blunt case. The softer one is that a professionally hung display simply looks different — even spacing, straight lines, no visible cords, and bulbs that all face the same direction.
